Now Playing

Whatever is playing on your Mac shows at the bottom left of the bar, with buttons to pause and skip, and you can type pause or next track too.

In the footer

When music, a podcast or a video is playing (the same thing macOS shows under Now Playing in Control Center), the bottom left of the bar shows its artwork, title and artist, and ⏮ ⏯ ⏭ buttons. A thin ring around the play button fills as the track plays.

A paused track stays in the footer for 5 minutes, so you can start it again. When nothing is playing, the footer shows Saiki's S instead. While an AI answer is being written, the footer needs the room, so it shows just the artwork and the play button.

Type a command

While something is playing (or paused in the last few minutes), these rows appear in search:

RowFind it by typing
Pause or Playpause, play, resume
Next Tracknext, skip, next track
Previous Trackprevious, back, previous song

Press ↵ to run it. The bar stays open, so you can skip again. On these rows, ⌘O opens the app that's playing.

Settings

Now Playing has one switch, Now Playing, in Settings → General → Now Playing (also listed in Settings → Features). Turn it off and the footer and the media rows go away, and Saiki stops watching what's playing.

Nothing extra to allow. Now Playing needs no permission. It only reads what macOS already knows is playing, and sends nothing anywhere.
