Pins and suggestions

Before you type anything, the bar lists what you pinned, in your order, then a few things it expects you to open.

The empty bar

Open the bar without typing and you see, from the top:

  1. Needs You, only when an agent is waiting for your answer. See Agents. In progress
  2. Saiki … is ready, only when a new version of Saiki is waiting. See Updates.
  3. Pinned: everything you pinned, in the order you set.
  4. Suggestions: about five things you usually open.

The first row is selected, so ↵ opens it. Use ↓ to reach the others.

Pin something

  1. Find it in the bar, for example by typing its name.
  2. Press ⇧⌘F, or press ⌘K and choose Pin to Empty Bar.
  3. Clear the field: it's now at the end of your pins.

You can pin these from the main search:

System Settings itemsOpens System Settings at that setting
Site search shortcutsOpens the site. To search it, type its shortcut and press ⇥. See Web and site search

Web searches, Ask AI rows and calculator answers can't be pinned. Clipboard History and Emoji & Symbols have pins of their own; see Clipboard History and Emoji and symbols.

Reorder and unpin

On the empty bar, select a pin and:

KeyAction
⌥⌘↑Move Up in Pinned
⌥⌘↓Move Down in Pinned
⇧⌘FUnpin

The same actions are in ⌘K. Moving works only with the field empty, where you can see the pins. Unpin works from search results too.

Suggestions

Under your pins, the bar suggests about five things, picked in this order:

  1. Up to two apps you installed in the last five minutes, while Saiki was running, and haven't opened yet.
  2. What you open most, of every kind: apps, commands, files, tabs, pages and settings. What you opened often a while ago fades over a few weeks.
  3. When there isn't enough history yet: Clipboard History, Applications, Emoji & Symbols, Files and Saiki Settings.

Anything already pinned isn't suggested again, and a file you deleted drops out on its own. A tab you used to switch to is suggested as its tab while it's open, and as its page once you close it.

Don't want something suggested? Select it and press ⌘K. Reset Ranking forgets how often you opened it, which drops it from the suggestions. For apps, commands and settings, Configure Command › Hide from Search removes it everywhere.

Hold ⌥ on the empty bar to see which rows are pinned and which are suggested, with how often and how lately you opened each one.
